Social media or a website? Why your business needs both

Social media is for people who already follow you. Your website is for people finding you for the first time. Each does a different job.

Many local businesses are very active on social media like Instagram, Facebook or TikTok: photos of their work, promotions, the team, answers to common questions. The problem is that all that information lives in a feed, sorted by date, and what you posted eight months ago is almost impossible to find.

Two different people

  • Someone who already knows you: they follow you, watch your stories, send you messages. For them, social media works very well.
  • Someone finding you for the first time: they type what they need and their town into Google. They want to know in seconds what you do, what it costs, when you’re open and how to get there.

For that second person, a website organizes the information: one page per service, your hours always visible, prices when you can publish them, and a button to call or message.

What a website gives you that social media doesn’t

  • Control: it’s your address, in your name, and it doesn’t depend on another platform’s rules.
  • Order: important information doesn’t sink with every new post.
  • A destination for Google: the “website” button on your Google profile leads somewhere that’s yours.
  • Content people find: a guide or an article can show up when someone searches that exact question.

You don’t have to write anything new. What you’ve already posted on social media (prices, plans, answers) is the best material for your site. It just needs organizing.
