Verifying your Google profile: methods, timing, and what to do if it gets stuck
Until you verify, you can’t edit your profile or reply to reviews. Here’s how verification works and how to speed it up.
Verification is what makes you the owner of your profile. According to Google, you need it to edit details like your name or hours and to interact with customers, for example by replying to reviews.
The methods
- Phone or text.
- Email.
- Live video call.
- Mail, with a code.
You don’t pick the method: Google decides based on your business type, public information, region and hours. Sometimes it asks for more than one. If video verification is offered, Google recommends it.
How long it takes
After you complete the steps, Google reviews the information. It says reviews can take up to 5 business days and, rarely, longer.
A little-known shortcut: Google says it sometimes verifies a profile instantly if you’ve already verified your website in Google Search Console. One more reason to have a site of your own.
If something goes wrong
If the “Get verified” button or a review notice shows up again, Google asks you to fix the issues or re-verify. Check that your name, address and category follow its guidelines before trying again.
