Google Search Console: what it is and why your site needs it

A free Google tool that shows how the search engine sees you. What it shows and how it helps a local business.

Google Search Console is a free Google service for monitoring how your site appears in search results. You don’t have to sign up to be included in Google, but Search Console helps you understand and improve how Google sees you.

What it shows you

  • Which searches your site appears for, and how often.
  • How many people clicked.
  • Alerts when Google finds indexing, spam or other issues.
  • Which other sites link to yours.

How it helps

  • Discover how people really search for you, in their own words.
  • Check whether a new page already appears on Google.
  • Learn about a problem before it costs you customers.
  • Google says verifying your site in Search Console can, in some cases, let your Business Profile be verified instantly.

When you launch your site, submit your sitemap (the map of your pages) in Search Console. That way Google knows all your pages from the start.
