Is your site fast on a phone? How to check in two minutes
Google publishes three user-experience measures, the Core Web Vitals, and a free tool to check them. Here’s how to read them.
Most of your new customers will see you first on a phone, often with an average signal. A site that’s slow to load, or that jumps around while you tap it, makes people leave.
Google’s three measures
- LCP (loading): how long the main content takes to appear. The recommendation is 2.5 seconds or less.
- INP (responsiveness): how long the page takes to react when you tap something. The recommendation is 200 milliseconds or less.
- CLS (stability): how much things move around while loading. The recommendation is 0.1 or less.
How to measure your site
- Go to pagespeed.web.dev.
- Enter your site’s address and click “Analyze”.
- Look at the mobile tab first. If your site gets enough visits you’ll see real-user data; if not, you’ll see a lab test.
What usually slows it down
- Huge photos, uploaded straight from the camera.
- Lots of third-party plugins or widgets: chats, counters, pop-ups.
- Heavy templates built to do everything.
Every Sitio Ya site is checked against these measures before we show it to you, and we share the results.
