Email on your own domain (you@yourbusiness.com): options and how to choose
An email address with your business name looks more professional than a generic one. There are free and paid options. Here’s the difference.
An address like bookings@yourbusiness.com builds more trust than a generic one full of numbers. To have one, you first need your own domain. Then you choose how to handle the email.
Option 1: free forwarding
Some services, like Cloudflare Email Routing, forward mail sent to your domain address to the inbox you already use, such as Gmail, for free. It’s ideal for receiving. To send messages that come from your domain address you need extra setup or an email service.
Option 2: a paid mailbox
Business email services give you a full mailbox on your domain: you send and receive from your address, with calendar and storage. They charge per user, usually monthly.
How to choose
- If you’re one or two people and want to start at no cost, forwarding is enough for receiving.
- If you have a team or email customers a lot, a full mailbox is worth it.
- Either way, the domain should be in your name.
Create addresses by role (bookings@, info@) rather than people’s names. If someone leaves the business, the address stays yours.
