How to tell whether your website is bringing you customers
You don’t need to be a data expert. With three free tools and one question to your customers, you’ll know what works.
Having a site and measuring nothing is like running an ad and never asking who saw it. These are the simplest ways to know if it’s working.
1. Your Google profile performance
Your Business Profile shows how many people called you from the call button, how many asked for directions and how many clicked through to your website. You can pick a date range and compare it with previous months.
2. Google Search Console
It’s free. It tells you which searches you appear for on Google, how many clicks you got and whether Google found problems with your site.
3. Google Analytics
It shows how many people visit your site, where they come from and which pages they view. A useful trick: add campaign parameters (UTM) to your site link on your Google profile, your social media or a QR code. That way you’ll know how many visits come from each place.
4. Ask
The cheapest tool of all: ask every new customer “how did you find us?” and write it down. Within a few months you’ll have a clear idea of which channel brings you the most customers.
Check these numbers once a month, not every day. What matters is the trend.
